Bengaluru: In what could be a “Peak Bengaluru” moment, a startup founder and an IIM graduate found himself on the driver’s seat in his cab trip, after his cabbie felt drowsy and sleepy in a fare from the International Airport towards the city recently. The night for Milin Chandwani, founder of Camp Diaries Bengaluru took an unexpected turn, when his cab driver was drowsy to carry on with his travel.
On a post on Instagram, he shared, “The cab driver was so drowsy that even a pit stop for tea and cigarettes couldn’t shake off his fatigue,” he stated in a video. This is where Chandwani offered to drive his vehicle. The video showed the driver in a reclined seat, sleeping. "I felt a mix of emotions: glad that he trusted me, sad that he had to push himself so hard, and slightly amused at how quickly he decided I was qualified for the job.” he recalled.
He ended the eventful ride by offering a tip worth Rs 100 and a five star rating on the ride hailing app. The video has become viral on social media and has prompted other users to share similar experiences. “I once had a cabbie tell me that he’d driven all night and hadn’t got any sleep. When I showed him my license and asked if he wanted to sleep while I drove, this man literally opened up to me about his whole life. A shred of kindness goes a long way and it probably made the cabbie in the video’s day,” added a user.
