Political controversies: Word war over Ambedkar after Shah remark leaves Rahul, Oppn fuming

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the remarks he made about BR Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha during a debate on the Constitution sparked a sharp backlash from the Congress, including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Amit Shah’s comments, which delved into Dr BR Ambedkar’s legacy and the opposition leaders’ frequent references to the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, were met with strong rebuttals from the Congress leaders.

Amit Shah, in his address, claimed that invoking Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” among opposition parties. “There’s a fashion now of saying ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar’. If one takes God’s name this many times, one would get into heaven,” Shah said.
