
`6,415 cr spent on Smart Cities in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister for Urban Development and Town Planning Byrathi Suresh announced that Rs 6,415.51 crore had been spent on Smart City projects in Karnataka, which came to some 94 per cent of the total amount released. The disclosure was made after Suresh held a meeting with his officials at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Thursday.
He added that if the Rs 6,817.75 crore released, the share of the Union government was Rs 3,372.875 crore and that of the State government was Rs 3,444.875 crore. A smart city is an urban settlement that uses digital technology to improve services, infrastructure,e environment and overall life. Seven cities in Karnataka have been shortlisted for the Smart City project. They are Belagavi, Hubballi, Mangaluru, Davangere, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Bengaluru. Apart from Mangaluru and Bengaluru, each of the cities has received Rs 990 crore each for the project.
