Bengaluru: The dosa rivalry in Bengaluru has reached new heights with the iconic Central Tiffin Room (CTR) opening a branch at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) arrivals. "The best feeling ever really chuffed to see @ctr1920 outside #T2 at @BLRAirport," said Satyaki Raghunath, COO of Bengaluru International Airport Limited, sharing his excitement about trying their benne masala dosa at the airport.
While the airport prices are on the higher side, with a benne masala dosa costing Rs 285 compared to Rs 90 at the Malleshwaram outlet, food enthusiasts are thrilled by the convenience of airport access. BIAL revealed that another Bengaluru favourite, Rameshwaram Cafe, will open at Terminal 1 by March 2024. Other popular eateries at the airport include Hatti Kaapi, Ooru Canteen and Maiyas. CTR, also known as Sri Sagar Hotel, is a Bengaluru institution established in 1920, famous for its buttery benne masala dosa that has earned it a loyal following. Rameshwaram Cafe, which opened in 2021, has quickly gained popularity for its generous use of ghee, and its association with APJ Abdul Kalam's birthplace adds a unique touch.
In a move to cater to the growing demand for affordable meals, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated two Indira Canteens near the airport in March 2024, offering breakfast for Rs 5 and lunch or dinner for Rs 10. With Kempegowda International Airport expanding its offerings and connectivity, serving 75 domestic and 30 international routes, it has become India’s third-busiest airport, handling 40 million passengers in 2024 alone. Since its opening in 2008, the airport has now surpassed 300 million cumulative passengers.
