
B'luru marks 77th Indian Army Day with displays

Bengaluru: Bengaluru celebrated the 77th Indian Army Day at the iconic Manekshaw Maidan, paying tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the Indian Army yesterday, January 11. The event, marked by thrilling exhibitions and displays, captured the audience’s attention and showcased the Army’s military prowess. The day started with the ‘Know Your Army’ Mela, which ran from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering the public a chance to interact with state-of-the-art military equipment.
Visitors were treated to a series of activities, including paramotor gliding, a motorcycle show and drone displays. One of the crowd favourites was a combat bridgelaying demonstration, offering a glimpse into the Army’s operational capabilities. Additionally, simulators gave attendees the opportunity to experience driving Army vehicles firsthand. A section of the event highlighted the invaluable role of Army animals. Children were particularly excited by the performances of Army dogs and horses. For those interested in joining the forces, stalls were set up to provide information on recruitment opportunities, veterans’ assistance, and medical support.
The celebrations also featured military performances, including a mock demonstration that depicted the tactical operations of the Indian Army during wartime. Military aviation took centre stage with the aerial manoeuvres of the Light Helicopter (WSI), and a tent pegging event left the audience in awe with its precision.
The Army’s special teams also put on a remarkable display of military operations. The day concluded with a ceremony, honouring the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. The Chief of the Indian Army reinforced the importance of unity, discipline and modernisation in his address, solidifying the Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
