New JD(S) state president by April, says Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Steel and Public Enterprises HD Kumaraswamy said the party had decided to elect a new JD(S) state pr e s ident , a post he currently holds, by way of polls by April. He made the comments after a meeting in Bengaluru on Sunday. There has been talk that Kumaraswamy will give up his JD(S) state president’s post after he won the Mandya Lok Sabha seat and was handed a choice portfolio in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. Kumaraswamy clarified that discussions on who will be chosen for the position were not held during the meeting.

“The decision has been taken to elect the state unit president through an election by April. I have been firm with our leaders about the need to focus on strengthening the party. Priority will be given to those who work sincerely for the party’s development. I too will regularly involve myself in organizational activities,” he said. “Important decisions were made during the meeting regarding the party’s organizational elections, membership drives, preparations for district and taluk panchayat elections, and strengthening the party structure,” NT Correspondent he added.
