2 arrested for stealing cash, jewellery after diverting attention

Bengaluru: The KR Puram police have arrested two accused who were diverting the attention of those carrying money and jewellery from banks and committing crimes. The arrested are Gopi and Akhil. On November 29, the accused who were on a two-wheeler, followed a man who had withdrawn Rs 4 lakh from a bank and was in a car, and duped him near TC Palya telling him that the car's wheel was punctured. After diverting attention, they snatched Rs 4 lakh from the dashboard of the car and fled.

Based on the complaint filed by the car driver who lost the money, the police, who investigated the case, arrested the accused based on CCTV footage. Rs 10 lakh in cash and 2 two-wheelers kept in the house of the accused have been seized. The same accused had snatched a bag from a person carrying gold ornaments from a bank under the jurisdiction of Kothanur police station on May 16 and fled.

The Kothanur police took them into custody on the basis of a body warrant and seized 324 grams of gold ornaments, 100 grams of silver items and Rs 1.10 lakh cash from the houses of the accused. The remaining five persons involved in the case are absconding and a search for them is on, the police said.
