Gas leak at seafood unit: 20 fall ill

Mangaluru: Over 20 employees fell ill after a gas leak at a seafood factory located at Baikampady, which is around 10 km away from Mangaluru.

According to sources, the leak occurred at ‘Everest Sea Foods Pvt LTD’. Soon after the incident, around 20 employees at the factory fell ill and they were shifted to Mukka Srinivas Hospital.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police N Shashi Kumar visited the spot along with Panambur police. Fire service personnel also rushed to the spot to avoid further damage.

After visiting the spot, Shashi Kumar told reporters that a total of 26 employees fell ill after the incident. They were immediately shifted to a hospital and 10 of them have been discharged. A total of 16 people are receiving treatment at the hospital.
