Rowdy-sheeter shot at, arrested

Bengaluru: In an early morning operation on Tuesday, the police opened fire at a notorious rowdy-sheeter, Narasimha Reddy, 32, near Hosakerehalli in the city and arrested him. Reddy, who tried to attack the policemen, was shot in his right leg and has now been admitted to a hospital.

According to the Girinagar police, Reddy was wanted in 32 criminal cases such as murder, attempted murder, robbery and extortion cases across Karnataka. He has been imprisoned several times and was out on bail.

The police started a manhunt to nab him when he disappeared without any trace and skipped summons. The police investigations revealed that he stayed in Hosakerehalli but was often seen in Gudemaranahalli in Magadi too, where he had some of his relatives from Tamil Nadu.

In the wee hours of Tuesday, police received a tip-off about Narasimha Reddy’s visit to his house in Hosakerehalli. The sub-inspector of the jurisdictional police station led a team to nab him but terrified at the sight of the policemen surrounding his car, Reddy tried to attack them with a machete to evade arrest and escape. The police then opened fire in the air before shooting him in the leg and nabbing him.

The police said that he has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. Complaints were registered against him in various police stations across the city including Electronic city, RR Nagar, CK Achukattu, Hulimavu and Banashankari police stations among others, police said.
