Bengaluru: The Higher Education Department will progressively fill vacant positions over the next five years, announced Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar. Speaking at the "Hosa Haadi" (New Path) workshop for newly appointed assistant professors, he urged educators to focus on the academic advancement of rural students. “The government has high expectations from you. Ensure your efforts bring significant educational benefits to students in underprivileged areas,” he emphasised.
Highlighting the challenges faced by government colleges, including competition with private institutions, he added, “The responsibility of improving the academic progress of economically weaker students rests on your shoulders.” Reaffirming the government’s dedication to improving education, Dr. Sudhakar stated, “As per our party’s manifesto, we are committed to filling 2.5 lakh positions within our five-year term. Discussions regarding this have already been held with the finance department.” He also announced that by the end of next month, after two decades, the process of appointing 310 principals for degree colleges will be completed. Addressing delays in appointments, he acknowledged the concerns faced by many during the recruitment process.
“I understand the stress you went through. Hundreds visited my residence daily, expressing their concerns. Resolving these issues was challenging, but we prioritised removing legal hurdles to secure your future. I am delighted to see your happiness today and hope this positivity continues,” he said. Dr Sudhakar also reminded the new appointees of their critical role in shaping the nation’s future.
“You bear the significant responsibility of nurturing students who will contribute to our country’s progress. I trust you will fulfill your duties with dedication and success,” he concluded. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Higher Education Secretary Srikar, Commissioner of Collegiate Education Manjushree, and other dignitaries.
