Bengaluru: India has taken a major step toward enhancing its air combat capabilities with the unveiling of a full-scale engineering model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Aero India 2025. Displayed at the India Pavilion, this marks the first public demonstration of the country’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence technology.
Developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), AMCA is a twin-engine, multi-role stealth fighter designed for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Weighing 25 tons, it ranks among the most advanced aircraft in its class. The fighter integrates state-of-the-art technologies, including an AI-powered Electronic Pilot for decision-making, Netcentric Warfare Systems for real-time coordination, an Internal Weapon Bay for stealth, and Integrated Vehicle Health Management for predictive maintenance.
A key highlight is AMCA’s deep integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The AI-powered Electronic Pilot enhances situational awareness, detects threats automatically, assists in complex combat scenarios, and enables coordination with UAVs. With these cutting-edge features, AMCA aims to compete with the world’s leading fifth-generation fighters. Aero India 2025 has also attracted significant international participation, with the US showcasing its latest aircraft and defence technologies.
