Apartments to get 200 litres of Cauvery water every day: BWSSB

Bengaluru: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chairman Ram Prasath Manohar on Friday promised the apartment residents a model fare calculator for their Cauvery water connection, a three-member committee to oversee tariff-related issues and 200 litres of water daily to every household. A decision in this regard was taken after a meeting held with the apartment residents by Manohar following rampant complaints about unfair water tariffs and other issues.

Apartments, especially those in the city periphery, were the worst affected during last year's water crisis. Cauvery Stage V aims to fill the requirement of about 775 million litres daily. However, apartment residents have complained of confusion and exorbitant charges over obtaining a Cauvery water connection. To address the same, the BWSSB is mulling introducing a model calculator on its website and allowing consumers to estimate their connection charges. Consumers have complained about unfair tariffs. There are several instances where the BWSSB had allegedly charged thousands of rupees in their bills but with very little to no water being supplied.

A three-member committee headed by the chief engineer will be formed to address the complaints. A suitable solution would be extended to the complainants after the review of their pleas, he said. He also assured that apartments with Cauvery water connections would be supplied 200 litres of water every day per household. With over 250 Cauvery water connection campaigns, the BWSSB has provided over 21,000 water connections to households. “Meetings are being held in every zone and evening campaigns to ensure maximum resident participation are being planned,” he added.
