Bengaluru: Material worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes after a devastating fire broke out at a godown on Ullal Main Road in the city on Friday night. A Tata Ace goods vehicle was also gutted in the fire. It is suspected that miscreants might have set the godown on fire under the influence of alcohol.

According to witnesses, the owner of the godown left for home around 7.30 pm after closing the godown, and the fire is believed to have been set by miscreants later on. On receiving information, the police and fire force personnel rushed to the spot. Six fire tenders were pressed into action and it took around 5-6 hours to extinguish the fire, which had spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable material. Jnanabharathi police registered a case and are investigating.
