Two women die as electric pole falls on them; JCB operator held

Bengaluru: Bayappanahalli police on Tuesday arrested an earth mover operator in connection with the tragic deaths of two women who were struck by a falling electric pole during road repairs on Suddaguntepalya Main Road in south Bengaluru on Monday. The arrested has been identified as Rajkumar.

The victims, identified as Sumati (35) and Soni Kumari (35), both residents of Suddaguntepalya, lost their lives, while two others were injured. The incident took place as they were returning home after collecting their children from tuition classes. According to police reports, the earth mover, while reversing during the road repair work, rammed an electric pole, causing it to fall on the women. Both victims died instantly. Soni Kumari, originally from Bihar, was four months pregnant and had been residing in the city for the past eight years with her two children. Sumati, from Tamil Nadu, lived in Suddaguntepalya with her husband and two children.
