Demand made to hold MCC polls speedily

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation Election Campaign Committee on Monday urged the government to conduct the long-delayed urban local body elections, without further postponement. Addressing a press conference here, State President of Aam Aadmi Party and Kannada cinema actor Mukhyamantri Chandru extended his support to the committee’s demand.

He also criticised the postponement of local body elections, stating that such actions undermine democratic principles and erode public trust in the system. As the State Election Commission (SEC) is an independent constitutional body with the mandate to conduct free and fair elections, he urged the state government to refrain from interfering in its functions. People have the right to elect their representatives on time and delaying the elections is a denial of democratic rights, said Chandru.

Historian Prof P V Nanjaraj Urs, SDPI State President Abdul Majeed, BSP State Secretary S Nagaiah, KRS Party State Vice President Somasundar, Bharatiya Parivartana Sangha State Coordinator Siddaraju Sosale, Karnataka Kannada Vedike President Suresh Babu and Election Campaign Committee Convener Aravind Sharma collectively criticised the state government for the delay in conducting MCC polls.
