In a bid to enhance cleanliness and curb illegal waste dumping, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will install CCTV cameras at strategic locations to keep a tab on the litterbugs, especially shopkeepers. After inspecting the KR Market, one of the largest wholesale markets in Bengaluru, on Saturday, BBMP Zonal Commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore said that traders are discarding waste indiscriminately; hence, officials have been directed to identify key waste-dumping spots and install CCTV cameras for real-time monitoring.

Approximately 7 0 tonnes of waste are being generated daily in the market, which is currently disposed of in three shifts. Officials have been instructed to take stern action against waste dumpers after monitoring the CCTV footage, he said. The traders will be instructed to operate within the marked areas, and unauthorised vending outside it will be controlled with the deployment of additional marshals, if necessary, Kishore said. He said that pressure washers will be used to clean the highly unhygienic areas.

A five HP pressure washer has already been procured, which will be used for daily cleaning. In addition, parking tenders will be called for the ground floor and other areas of the market, with proper demarcation of entry and exit points, he added.
