Bengaluru: In a major boost to the city’s public transport infrastructure, the iconic Majestic Bus Stand in Bengaluru — one of India’s busiest transit points — is set for a massive high-tech makeover under the ambitious ‘Project Majestic’. Located in the heart of Bengaluru, the Kempegowda Bus Station, popularly known as Majestic, sees lakhs of commuters passing through daily.
With nearly three decades of history, the bus terminal has long struggled with space constraints, outdated facilities and poor connectivity between buses, metro, and rail services.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the plan, originally conceived during the tenure of leaders like Devaraj Urs and Gundu Rao, was revived in 2016 but delayed. Now, the government is determined to finally execute the project, which will seamlessly in- tegrate city and intercity buses, metro services and railway connectivity in one giant hub.
In his budget, announced that the Majestic area will be redeveloped as an Intermodal Transport Hub under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has already floated a tender to appoint technical consultants to chalk out a detailed plan.
The proposed hub will span around 40 acres and cover the existing KSRTC terminals 1, 2, and 3. Apart from modern transport facilities, the plan includes commercial elements like a shopping complex, food courts and office spaces, generating additional revenue and convenience for commuters.
Consultants will now conduct site inspections, study current traffic flow, assess market demand and prepare detailed environmental and social impact reports before finalising the feasibility report. With over 10,000 BMTC and KSRTC buses plying daily, the project promises to address space crunch and offer Bengalurean's a smooth, integrated travel experience for decades to come.
