In a controversial development, Kannada actor Darshan, the prime accused in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, has secured permission from a Bengaluru court to travel abroad for a film shoot.
Darshan, who was recently released on conditional bail, had sought court approval to fly overseas for the shooting schedule of his upcoming film Devil. Earlier, the film’s producers had planned to shoot key portions in Israel, but the plan was dropped due to the prevailing conflict in Israel and Iran.
According to Darshan’s legal team, the shoot has now been shifted to Thailand. His counsel, Advocate S Sunil Kumar, submitted a revised plea before the 57th Sessions Court requesting new travel dates, citing unavoidable changes to the schedule due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The court had initially granted permission for Darshan to travel abroad from July 1 to July 25. With the Israel schedule cancelled, the actor moved a fresh petition seeking revised dates – from July 11 to July 30 – for the Thailand shoot. The court heard the plea and approved the new travel window with certain conditions.
The Devil team confirmed that only the Thailand portions would now be filmed, abandoning earlier plans for Israel. Darshan, one of Sandalwood’s biggest stars, faces serious charges of criminal conspiracy and murder in the Renukaswamy case.
He was arrested and spent several weeks in judicial custody before being released on bail under strict conditions, including travel restrictions. The latest court order now permits him to participate in the film’s overseas shoot under judicial supervision.
