Now, Syria blasted by unprovoked strikes
Gaza, Damasus: The Israeli military struck Syria’s De fence Ministry in Damascus twice on Wednesday, marking a dangerous escalation in the country’s internal unrest. The attacks—unprovoked by Syria—came as Israel intervened in clashes between the Syrian army and Druze fighters in southern Syria, in what has be come the country’s deadliest violence in months.
At least one person was killed and 28 wounded. The strikes followed Israeli threats to escalate if Syrian government forces were not withdrawn from the south, despite Syria not initiating any aggression across the border.
“ The Israelis are not going to allow the Syrian government to spread its authority all over the territory,” said Ammar Kahf, executive director of Omran Center for Strategic Studies, who is based in Damascus.
OH GAZA!
At least 21 Palestinians have been killed in the latest carnage at the GHF aid distribution centre in southern Gaza, with most of the victims reported to have died in a stampede.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health has dis puted the allegation from the controversial United States- and Israel-backed organ isation that armed agitators were responsible for the inci dent on Wednesday morning at the site in Khan Younis. Without providing any evidence, it said the stam pede had been provoked by “elements within the crowd – armed and affiliated with Hamas”.
Medical sources in the Gaza Strip have told Al Jazeera the number of people killed so far today in Israeli attacks across the besieged and bombard ed territory has risen to at least 74. Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 58,573 people and wounded 139,607. (Agencies )
