Trend-setter: Turning Dakhni pride into comedy gold
Bengaluru
Younus Shakeel Ahmed, known on Instagram as @younusahmed_official, is a Bengaluru-based content creator and comedian with a growing fanbase of over 4,06,000 followers. He has made a name for himself through his distinct brand of Bangalore-centric humour. Despite his success online, Younus also balances a corporate job alongside content creation, a dual life that reflects both his discipline and passion.
His content, mainly short and highly relatable videos, captures the essence of city life across various neighbourhoods through sharp observational comedy, character-driven sketches, and clever dubbing. He is especially known for his witty take on the local accent and slang of Dakhni, and his talent for turning everyday situations into laugh-out-loud moments. By consistently creating content that resonates with the city's residents, Younus has become a prominent and beloved figure in the local comedy scene, amassing a loyal following that appreciates his authentic and humorous portrayal of Bangalore life.
College troupe to creator life
Younus began his content creation journey well before Instagram introduced the short-form Reels feature, back in the pre-COVID era. He’s been consistently creating content for over six years now. “It all started when a friend showed me a funny dub video. I told him I could do it better, so I recreated my own funnier version”, he recalled. That spontaneous moment sparked his interest in dubbing videos, which he initially created on another app before eventually transitioning to Instagram. He started with short, 15-16 second comedic dubs in Dakhni.
“Dakhni is often looked down upon, and many people hesitate to speak it. But I took pride in it and chose to create content mainly in Dakhni,” he shared. For him, the language feels natural and allows him to deliver sharp, impactful messages with ease.
With prior experience as part of a performance troupe in college, Younus was no stranger to the spotlight. As he began posting his videos online, several of his friends joined in too. “It all began as a fun experiment. I was thrilled even when my videos got just 2,000 views,” he said. He now collaborates with his friends Roman, Shoaib, Salman, and Aftab to create the content.
Five characters, one creator
“We script our videos by noting down the main punchlines and key moments, but beyond that, most of it is spontaneous. Sometimes we go completely off script!” Younus explained, describing his creative process. He shared that the script often evolves organically during filming, leading to unexpectedly great results. “My goal is simple: if someone’s having a bad day, I want my content to make them smile. That’s my niche,” he said. “I’ve created around five distinct characters,” Younus shared.
Over time, he has developed a variety of unique and humorous personas for his page, each one highly relatable and born out of his ongoing experimentation with content. His audience doesn’t just stop at watching. They keep coming back for more. “I know people return to watch the videos again and again, and that’s what strengthens my community. It’s how new viewers turn into loyal followers,” he said proudly.
Peek into the industry
The creator recalled the first time he realised his content could earn money. “I had no idea you could actually make money from this. I still remember getting Rs 300 for a story promotion. It completely shocked me,” he shared with a smile. He is currently managed by a friend through a management agency named ‘Creator box’ that handles all his brand deals. “I’m grateful to have a friend managing things who genuinely has my best interests at heart,” he shared. Younus firmly believes that growth in content creation comes from constant evolution. “There’s no point in being rigid about the kind of content you make. In this field, you have to be open to adapting and evolving”, he said.
He recalled a moment that proved this mindset right, when he created a humorous video featuring a Malayali character. The content struck a chord with a wide and diverse audience, quickly going viral and racking up over 4 million views. Reflecting on how much the content creation landscape has evolved, Younus shared, “I believe the industry today is incredibly vast and full of opportunities. Anyone who wants to step into it has a much better chance now than when I started.”
Offering advice to aspiring creators, he said, “Be consistent, and focus on proving yourself to your own heart. Don’t do it just for the money. Start only if you have a real passion for creating and growing". When asked what success means to him, Younus answered with humility: “Success, to me, is when people recognise me and come up to say my content made their day.
That impact means everything”. With a deep love for acting, he hopes to take on larger, more ambitious projects in the future, a step he sees as the next phase of his creative journey. He is also preparing to transition into full-time content creation, with plans to either start a media business or launch his management agency. For now, Younus continues to manage his own account while collaborating with fellow creators Sachin Kumar and Arham Azmath on South Side Show, a project that celebrates regional comedy and storytelling.
