Bengaluru, Jan. 15 The city police showcased their humane side by letting an elderly man drive his vehicle to the market and return, despite violating the weekend curfew rules.

The senior citizen, identified as Beere Gowda, had come from his residence in J.J. Nagar to the city market area to buy vegetables. Gowda runs a provisional store along with selling vegetables near his house.

After obtaining permission from the local police, he had come to the KR Market to purchase vegetables. However, while returning he was stopped by the police near KR Market. After seizing his vehicle, the police were about to file a case against him for violating the guidelines. Despite his repeated requests to pardon him, the police were adamant.

Upset over the police action, Gowda threw the vegetables on the road and broke down. When the matter was brought to the notice of KR Market police station inspector Kumaraswamy, he directed his staff to release the seized vehicle and allow the aged man go home.

Gowda, who happened to see the media personnel at the spot, also sought their help.

He later told media that he had come to buy vegetables only after obtaining permission from the police near his house. “As it is a festival on Saturday, I was planning to buy groundnuts after purchasing vegetables when I was stopped by the police. I admit to having made a mistake, but I risked coming for the purchase to help the people near my store,” he added.
