BESCOM negligence lands Puravankara residents in a fix

Bengaluru: Puravankara group's Provident Sunworth City, which comprises about 3,000 flats, at Doddbelle Venkatapura villages in Kambipura of Kengeri, is grappling with continuous power outages, particularly during heavy rains.
On Monday night, the problem began with continuous power fluctuations, which caused all the diesel generators (DGs) in the housing society to trip. From 7:00 pm to 11:45 pm, the management worked hard to restore the power supply to all the blocks, but was unsuccessful.
"All food items in my refrigerator got spoiled. As there is no RO water, I had to purchase drinking water cans from out side,” Sunetra, a resident of Block 6, which is the most affected, told NewsTrail. "Hours of power cuts and water woes grip residents during heavy rains.
Children are unable to study, and we can't take regular showers or wash clothes and utensils. The BESCOM is not bothered to rectify the problem despite complaints," said Mamata Jha, another resident. "We have UPS at home, as I work from home for overseas clients. But how long can it give a backup?" asks Manjunath, an IT professional from the 6th Block.
The BESCOM line man, who was roped in to solve the issue, could not trace the exact fault. From 6:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, several DGs failed again due to power fluctuation, disrupting the water pumping. As the problem escalated, BESCOM officials and area MLA So mashekhar Reddy ensured that a full BESCOM team visited the premises for a thorough inspection.
Following this, the BESCOM engineers identified the root cause as multiple cable damages due to voltage fluctuations. They also discovered issues with the near by main transformer (11,000 KV) and as sured of settling the problem at once.
