Mangaluru: Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Sri Krishna Matha ascended the ‘Sarvajna Peeta’ and became the new Paryaya Peetadhipathi on Tuesday.

“I will work during the two year Paryaya term to fulfill the desires of devotees. Tulasi archane and bhajan (during the day time) programme in the Car Street will be held’’, he declared after ascended the Peeta.

He further said that there are a lot of expectations from devotees during his Paryaya term. ‘‘Though there is fear in me whether I will be able to fulfill them, I leave everything to God’s wish as he is the supreme. I will do my duties with love and care,” he said.

Former Deputy CM Dr G Parameshwar was also present at the event. He said, “I am happy to participate in the event today. The uniqueness of India is its diverse culture and its richness. Paryaya is a unique custom for transfer of pooja rights from one seer to another”.

Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji of Sri Admar Matha who transferred the Lord Krishna pooja rights to Sri Vidyasagara Theertha said that two years of the Paryaya Term is more like a responsibility than assuming a seat of power. ‘‘ The unique system of eight pontiffs worshipping Lord Krishna in turns is to pass on the message that nothing is permanent. But every opportunity should be utilised for doing good to the world. It is the responsibility of every seer who ascends the Peeta,” he added.
