Bengaluru: The city police are on the lookout for Subhan Shariff, the Honorary Secretary of the Al-Ameen Education Society and trustee of Ayesha Amina Trust, for alleged cheating and fraud. He is stated to be absconding. Another trustee B.M. Zakir has been taken into the police custody.
In a case registered with SJP Road Police Station on January 7, by Dr Ahmed Shariff Siraj, Hony Secretary of the Ayesha Amina Trust, the duo have been charged with swindling the Trust funds to the tune of Rs 6 crore.
The Trust has been operating a hostel for the students of the Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy in the Silver Jubilee Park area for the last 20 years. The 4,500 sq. ft. land for the hostel was donated by a hotelier and philanthropist late Nabi Shariff about 25 years ago.
The founder of Al-Ameen Society, Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (who died on May 27, 2021), had raised funds to construct the hostel.
According to the complaint lodged by Dr Siraj, who is Nabi Shariff’s son, Subhan Shariff has been evading presentation of accounts of the Trust at monthly meetings.
The hostel was built 20 years ago and it collects Rs 15,000 as a refundable fee from each inmate and Rs 3,500 every month towards lodging charges.
Siraj told News Trail that Shariff and Zakir had opened a separate account to divert the money which should have been deposited in the hostel’s official account in Bank of Baroda.
The Ayesha Amina Trust was registered under the Karnataka Wakf Board as a Wakf institution in 1972. The complaint said, after the expiry of Dr Mumtaz last year, Shariff declared himself president without the knowledge of the Board of Trustees.
Shariff and Zakir, who was also the Principal of the Al-Ameen College, were signing the documents and operating the account and withdrawing funds after submitting forged documents.
