Covid deaths: Compensation to BPL families

Mysuru: It is eight months since Syeda a resident of Ghausia nagar of Mysuru city, lost her husband, due to Covid even after taking Rs 3 lakh loan for his treatment. Losing the only bread winner of the family, being mother of four daughters and one son, she ran from pillar to post for compensation.

At last there is some ray of hope to Syeda and other below poverty line families in the district. The Mysuru district administration will begin distribution of compensation cheques to over 750 below poverty line families, who have lost their kin due to Covid.

Since March 2020, as many as 2,452 people have died due to Covid in Mysuru district, including 24 this month. Among them many as 1,216 people have died in government hospitals and 1,186 in private hospitals, while 41 people died at home. In January, there were no deaths due to Covid in the first week, but in the second week there were six deaths, and in the last week there were 18 deaths in the district.
