Navy Vice-Chief: Naval build-up well underway
The first of the Visakhapatnam Class destroyers, under the Rs 35,000 crore P15B project, INS Visakhapatnam, will also be commissioned on November 21, in Mumbai.
The Indian Navy’s plan for a 170 ship force is on track, and it is confident of a positive response from the government on its demand for a third aircraft carrier. The warship will be designed to accommodate both fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles. At present, India has only one aircraft carrier — INS Vikramaditya, which is a Russian origin platform. The indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is expected to be fully operational by 2022. -(PTI)
