Yediyurappa’s 30-year-old granddaughter who was working as a surgeon at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in the city, reportedly committed suicide by hanging at her rented flat in Vasanth Nagar Friday morning at around 10 am.
The deceased, Dr Soundarya was married to Dr Neeraj who works at MS Ramaiah Hospital as a radiologist, in 2018. The couple have a nine-month-old baby and were staying at the upscale apartment near Mount Carmel College. The naming ceremony of the kid is said to have happened last week.
Police said depression is suspected to be the reason for the suicide. After the post-mortem at Bowring Hospital, the body was shifted to her husband’s native Abbigere in Bengaluru North Taluk in Soladevanahalli for the final rites Friday evening.
A team of three doctors headed by Dr Satish, HoD of Forensic Medicine, conducted the post-mortem in front of a tahsildar. The report on the cause of death has been submitted to the tahsildar who will later hand it over to the family and the home department. A few ministers including JC Madhuswamy reached the mortuary to pay their last respects.
Dr Neeraj is said to have gone for work at around 8 am on Friday and at this time, Dr Soundarya was in the flat with her kid and an elderly housemaid. The incident came to light when the maid reached the victim’s room to give breakfast and found the door closed. After she failed to get any response, she called Dr Neeraj who reportedly called his wife and on failing to elicit a response, he rushed home at around 10.30 am and forcibly entered the room to find his wife hanging from the ceiling fan.
