Undwadi water project will be completed by July 2023

Mysuru: First phase of Undwadi project worth Rs 590 crore, to augment another additional 150 MLD of Cauvery water near Hale Undwadi, to meet drinking water needs of Mysuru city and surrounding areas is likely to be completed by July 2023, according to sources.

The project taken up by Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) began in March last year with the project period being 30 months. Nearly 39 percent of the work is completed.

The Undwadi project aims to augment up to 900 MLD of Cauvery water in different phases and meet the drinking water needs of at least 50 lakh people by 2081.

At present 150 MLD of water augmented in the first phase of the project will benefit at least 12 to13 lakh of the existing population in 111.86 square kilometers. It will benefit rural water supply of more than 96 villages of Mysuru taluk, including those in Chamundeswari constituency. It will also meet drinking water needs of people at North west of Mysore to south mid-west, and also people in areas coming under Mysuru City Corporation, including Kuvempunagar and others, MUDA including Vijaynagar 4th Stage, Maratikyathanahalli, Koorgalli and others areas, Karnataka Housing Board and other areas coming under Mysuru planning area.
