Bengaluru: The members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday staged a massive protest near Anjanapura on Magadi Road in the city.
The protest was held after the death of a local school teacher, Sharmila, 38, who was killed in an accident due to a bad pothole ridden road Sunday morning. The political party also alleged that the civic infrastructure in Bengaluru is of the poorest quality in the country. Speaking during their protest at the accident site, AAP state convener Prithvi Reddy said, “This is not the first time motorists have been victims of such accidents due to potholes. If we don’t step up our campaign, such incidents will continue to happen. State government, local legislators, BBMP and BWSSB should be held responsible for these accidents,” he said.
AAP senior leader and former BJP MLA HD Basavaraju said, “Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has failed to provide safety to the public. The money released for the repair of the road is going into some pockets,” he said.
Some of the protesters including AAP convener Prithvi Reddy and member Jagadish V Sadam were arrested by the police. Meanwhile, blaming the Yeshwanthpur constituency MLA ST Somashekhar and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) engineers for their negligence in restoring the dug up road due to which the woman lost her life, the AAP party members filed police complaints against them.
