Bengaluru: A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus caught fire near Jayanagar South-end circle on Tuesday. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The incident took place around 1:15 pm when the bus (258F) was heading towards Banashankari bus stand via South-end circle from Kempegowda Bus Station. As it reached near Nanda talkies, the driver saw thick smoke coming out of the engine and immediately stopped the bus.
The passengers were alerted immediately to deboard. Moments later, the fire spread over the front section of the vehicle and then to a few passenger seats. About 20 passengers were shifted to another bus.
Fire and emergency personnel, who arrived at the scene, doused the fire.
“Issues with the battery might have sparked the fire in the engine,” a senior BMTC official suspected. “We are trying to inspect the exact cause,” he added.
On January 21, a similar incident took place near Makkala Koota Park in Chamarajpet, when a BMTC bus carrying 40 passengers caught fire. However, no one was injured.
