Hijab: Shah upset with Bommai?

NT Correspondent

The Central government is learnt to have sought a detailed report on the hijab controversy reported from a couple of educational institutions in coastal Karnataka districts in the last one month.

Sources in the CM’s Office told News Trail that the Centre has taken serious note of the row after former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti tweeted alleging the BJP government was denying education to Muslim girls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is said to be upset with the Karnataka government’s handling of the issue.

The BJP top brass is also reportedly annoyed with Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai for not trying to resolve the row before it flared up. The Delhi leaders fear that Opposition parties may use this controversy during the campaign for the Assembly elections in five states and try to portray the BJP as anti-minority.

Meanwhile CM Bommai held an emergency meeting at ‘Krishna’ on Friday on the hijab controversy. It is learnt that the government is planning to extend the uniform code which is presently applicable till class 10, upto class 12.
