DK to leaders: No comment on hijab

KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar has issued gag orders to party leaders saying no one must make comments on the controversial hijabsaffron shawl controversy that has erupted in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said party leaders need to discuss this issue first. Already, the High Court is seized of the matter. Since it was a sensitive issue pertaining to children, it must not be discussed in public, he added.
Meanwhile, KPCC Working President Satish Jarkiholi has advised the government to find an early solution to the controversy before it spreads to other districts. It would be a big problem if what happened in the Udupi college spreads to colleges in other places too. Nothing untoward must happen over the Uniform code. Educational institutions must stay away from such controversies. “My earnest appeal to the government is to prevent the occurrence of such incidents in other places. No organization must intervene in such school issues. It is the duty of the school management to resolve it. In a country like India, it is not possible to implement the dress code,” he added.
