Tumakuru flyover: Wait gets longer
NT Correspondent
Expressing concern over the delay in reopening the Goraguntepalya flyover on Tumakuru Road (NH4), Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Traffic) West Division, Kuldeep Kumar Jain on Saturday, wrote a letter to the Regional officers of National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) authorities urging them to speed up the inspection works on the flyover.
He said it may take another week as the authorities have decided to run special tests to ensure structural stability before reopening the elevated way for the traffic. The flyover was closed on December 25 when the NHAI officials found issues with the cables of two spans near Swathi Petrol Bunk during a routine inspection. It connects the city with 20 districts of Karnataka and other states. Normally, each day the flyover carries 50,000-60,000 vehicles in both directions. Traffic is currently being diverted.
