21,000 km walk to promote blood donation
Mysuru: Kiran Verma, a Delhi based social worker, who has taken up a 21,000 km walk to create awareness on blood donation from Thiruvananthapuram and has completed 800 km so far. He began his walk from Mysuru to Coimbatore on Sunday.
Verma has started his journey on December 28, and it will be the longest one taken up by an individual and this will go on for more than two years, according to him. He said that, due to rising Covid cases, voluntary blood donation in India is going down in the last two years. So he has taken up the mission to encourage people to donate even in tough times.
He added, “Every day 12,000 people fail to get blood in India, and due to that 3 million who wait for blood die. If 5 million youth start donating blood then there will not be even a single death due to non-availability of blood in India,” Kiran Verma said.He is the founder of “Change with one foundation” under which he runs two programmes, “Simply blood” and “Change with one meal”. Simply blood is a virtual blood donation platform connecting blood donors and seekers. “Change with one meal” is an initiative where unlimited meal is served for Rs 10. And till date they have served more than 4,00,000 meals in the last one year.
