Former AICC President Rahul Gandhi’s advisor K. Raju met Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah here on Sunday. The duo are said to have discussed current political developments in the state and country.
Later, Siddaramaiah told the media that there was no need to give special importance to the meeting since it was only a courtesy visit with Raju entrusted the responsibility of the Congress’ digital membership drive.
“Raju has been visiting all states and was in Bengaluru today. There is no special significance attached to it”, he added. Asked about JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement that it was the dream of both KPCC President D.K.Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah to become chief minister, the Congress leader shot back; “Who is Kumaraswamy? The same Kumaraswamy…I won’t talk about him. It is true that I spoke about the headscarf. But I will not talk about him (Kumaraswamy)’’.
On miffed Congress MLC C.M. Ibrahim’s outburst against the Congress Party, the former CM said “Ibrahim will not quit the Congress. Let him do anything, it has nothing to do with me. But I am confident that he will not leave the Congress. Former minister, Dr H.C. Mahadevappa has already spoken to Ibrahim. After he cools down, I will meet him and convince him to remain in the Congress. Ibrahim is unhappy over not being made Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council. He had joined the Congress along with former CM late M. Veerendra Patil and subsequently joined the Janata Parivar with me. Then I and Ibrahim joined the Congress Party. In 1972, as a student I have gone to the Town Hall in Mysuru to hear Ibrahim’s speech”.
