Police Training Schools to impart self-defence training to women in state
NT Correspondent
The existing police training schools will be used to impart self-defence training to women in the state, said Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai.
The home department had been instructed in this regard, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said after launching the “Obavva Art of Self Defence Training’ organised by the social welfare department here on Sunday. Self defence training will soon be introduced for girl students in schools/colleges. “A lot of respect is given to women and they are placed high on the social laddery. But perverts look at them in a cheap manner. Several legislations have been passed, several progammes have been launched and adequate funds released to check harassment and atrocities on women. But there is a need to impart self-defence training to them too. This will enable them to teach a lesson to anti-social and rogue elements who tease women”
Bommai said the departments of law, education and home along with society must work together to ensure that the safety and dignity of women was protected. Several good programmes have been formulated through boarding schools of the state for women’s protection. This programme must go on throughout the year. All the programmes would be integrated and a new programme would be implemented for women’s safety.
Self confidence needed for self defence.
The CM said self confidence is needed for selfdefence. One who is selfconfident would be able to defend oneself ably. In fact, self-confidence is like a tonic for self defence and the social welfare minister and officials of the department were giving that tonic to women. An ambitious programme is being charted out to impart self- defence training to 50,000 girls students in backward classes and social welfare department hostels, he added.
