What’s stopping Ayukta from filing asset details?

In a country where declaration of assets and liabilities by politicians usually hides more than what it reveals, the question now being asked is why important constitutional functionaries should not set an example by honestly making the declaration so that others follow suit? Should the state
Lokayukta, for instance, set a precedent by declaring his assets and liabilities though it is not mandatory for him to do so? Those who feel such a declaration is needed, point to High Court and Supreme Court Judges who declare their as- sets and liabilities.

This would also tie in with the Karnataka Lokayukta’s own directive to direct elected representatives to declare their assets and liabilities every year and recommend the names of those who fail to do so to the Governor. Sources say the Lokayukta office has so far, not shared information on his assets and liabilities with applicants who are seeking it under the Right to Information Act 2005.
