Big cat loses battle with jumbo, dies

Bengaluru: A seven-year-old-tiger which was grievously injured in a fight with a wild elephant in Ganjikatte Forest Range in Bandipur Tiger Reserve Safari zone, succumbed to its injuries at the Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Mysuru on Wednesday.

According to information reaching here, the male tiger, ‘Mooga’ was said to be tourist-friendly and was regularly spotted in its territory during the daily safari of tourists. On October 20, it got into a fight with the wild jumbo and got gored by the tusker suffering deep injuries in its intestine and lungs. The tiger was crying in pain in the forest when it was spotted by forest guards and shifted to the Mysuru Centre for treatment.

According to veterinarians, the tiger had two big holes in its stomach after the pachyderm gored it and was in a serious condition. After a consultation with doctors at the Mysuru Zoo, a team of doctors performed the surgery on the big cat and it showed signs of recovery. It even started taking food and its digestion had also improved. However, the big cat succumbed to its injuries on Wednesday.

After the post-mortem, the tiger’s body was cremated.
