Aloe there! The skincare succulent

NT Features

This succulent has a long history of being used for medicinal purposes, taking us back to ancient Egypt. However, the plant draws its origin from North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Canary Islands. Today, aloe vera is grown in tropical climates worldwide. From providing relief to a heartburn to having the potential to slow the spread of breast cancer, researchers are just beginning to discover the benefits of this universal plant and its byproducts.

Why will you love it?

This succulent unlike the few others are very attractive and easy to care for. They enhance the decor for your living space minimalistically with their thorny leaves. You won’t stop saying ‘aloe you vera much’ to your plant!

Bright or dim?

These do best in bright and dry conditions. This plant will thrive to its full potential under full sun but can also tolerate shade for a few hours.

Where to place it?

Aloe in full shade will not thrive so make sure there is at least a little sun in the room it’s placed in. A sunny kitchen window or any other sunny spot for that matter is favourable.

How to be a good Aloe vera parent?

Water deeply but sparingly. Wait until the soil is dry at least 2 inches below the surface and water it until you see water coming out of the drainage holes. Do not water again, until the soil is dry. During the colder seasons, water twice a month.

Trivias of the plant

Tiny baby aloe plants start to sprout from the mother plant. When you see a baby that is fully formed, detach it from the mother plant using a knife. Make sure you do not hurt the network of roots on the baby plant in the process. Then, repot it in a small pot using the same potting mix used for succulents or cacti.
