A taste of India: Jalsa is a one-stop destination

NT Features

Jalsa, as the name suggests, is quintessentially an Indian celebration, reimagined with global design and food. Jalsa is a vegetarian buffet restaurant that serves up a limitless spread of Indian staples and international fun-dining highlights like Asian bowls, Mexican and Mediterranean street food, Japanese Teppanyaki and Continental favourites – all with a desi, folksy twist. Jalsa is the global Indian, coming home to an earthy desi carnival.

“It’s not just about food, it's about celebration, a fusion of fun, food and friends” says Shefali Shah, critically-acclaimed actress, artist, self-confessed foodie, and now the chief creative force at Jalsa. “Jalsa is a one stop destination that offers a limitless spread of Indian staples and international fun-dining experience. It is a labour of love for me with every element from décor to cutlery and its recipe to the presentation, it is supervised and often personally executed by me,” says she. Her innate understanding of the dramatic, artful and the heart-warming aspects of human experience, has helped with her culinary skills!

The live counters that serve gastronomic delights like the mouth-watering crunchy jalebis with its golden colour is a sinful treat. The invigorating flavour of the zesty cheesy pizzas keeps you asking for more. The tongue tickling - jal jeera is a cool and perfect desi drink to keep yourself hydrated and detoxify. The endless cups of desi masala chai served on a cycle is a creative fun dining highlight that makes you feel light and relaxed. The fun spree dining experience has a lot to offer with a Ferris wheel, astrologers, henna artists, funfair games, and of course, a spacious groovy dance floor to let your body sway.

The North Indian tandoor delights like the makki ki rotti and the paneer butter masala make a good main course. The hot oriental bowls served are full of healthy surprises and a perfect feel of the old Chinatown. The continental pastas are an important part of the menu.

Local ingredients are combined with traditional cooking methods to create enjoyable dishes. Regional delights like the ‘bissi bissi namoora dosa’ served with a tri-coloured chutney is typically South. Chaat lovers have a variety of options to choose from at the live counter – aloo tikki, pani puri and the dhai puri are finger licking and will have you asking for more.

Jalsa promises endless fun for every age group.
