A case of too much being too bad
The movie deals with the prevailing trend of rampant cyber crime that has been affecting innocent people, especially women. It successfully conveys the message that though mobile phones and social media are necessary for information and communication but an excessive dependence on them is not desirable.
Director Ramesh Aravind, who also plays the lead role, has aptly narrated advantages and disadvantages of social media and how cyber crooks target innocent and gullible people to quench their lust.
The movie 100 begins with a private TV channel breaking the news of a young woman, a social media victim, jumping to death from a high-rise building. Police Commissioner Sadanand (Prakash Belawadi) assigns Vishnu (Ramesh Aravind), a police inspector, not only to keep an eye on a corrupt police officer but also on cyber crooks. The director, in a flashback , narrates how Vishnu had fallen in love with Anagha (Poorna). And after marriage, when they have a daughter who falls ill, he has to struggle to arrange money for her treatment. Somehow he managed to get money not only for his daughter’s treatment but also to construct a hospital to ensure that no child is denied treatment due to lack of money.
Meanwhile, Vishnu, while tapping phones of corrupt people, happens to stumble upon his wife Anagha (Poorna) attending a phone call from Harsha (Vishwa Karna), a cyber crook who traps gullible women. Vishnu suspects his wife initially but learns that the victim is his sister Vibha (Rachita Ram) who is obsessed with social media. The climax is how Vishnu manages to get rid of Harsha.
As far as the title of the movie is concerned, it has nothing to do with the police control room phone number 100. It is about the number of victims of a cyber crook in this movie. Vibha is the hundredth victim of the cyber stalker Harsha.
Ramesh Aravind, a favourite of family audiences, has once again tried his best to keep his fan base pleased. His performance, as a concerned husband, brother and father, deserves appreciation. Rachita Ram, normally the romantic interest opposite the lead, plays the lead’s sister enamoured by the bad guy. Poorna, who makes her debut in Sandalwood with this movie, looks good.
Prakash Belawadi has acted well as a corrupt and scheming police commissioner. His dialogue delivery and body language are good. Raju Thalikote, as the minister Kamaraj, provides the much-needed comic relief. Vishwa Karna is convincing as a vicious person. Shobharaj, as a corrupt and greedy police officer who goes to any extent to get promoted, has acted well.
All in all, it is worth watching by the whole family, especially those who want to know the disadvantages of social media.
