The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) police have arrested a travel agent on charges of attempting to sell a woman for flesh trade.

The victim, who is in her early twenties, hails from Kolar and had left her house after a petty fight with family members. After she reached the Majestic area, the accused, identified as Nagesh, happened to see her.

Under the pretext of offering help, he reportedly raped her. Later he struck a deal with a Delhi-based flesh trader and decided to take her to the capital by flight.

When they reached the airport, the security staff grew suspicious and took both of them to custody and later handed them over to the jurisdictional police. The accused is in his early thirties and works as an agent at a travel agency.

He had reportedly told police that he had got a buyer, who was ready to purchase her for Rs 10,000. The police suspect the accused had sold a few other women in the past and was part of a larger network.

“The victim was supposedly new to the city and was crying sitting on a bench. The accused who observed her went to console her and found out about her background. Promising her a job, he had taken her to a house near Devanahalli and reportedly raped her. He got in touch with flesh traders and made attempts to sell her. While trying to take her to Delhi, the airport security personnel grew suspicious about their movement,” said a police officer.

The police are interrogating Nagesh to ascertain his modus operandi.

The family members of the victim are also being approached. The mobile phone of the accused has been recovered and the police are analyzing call details. The police are also checking the history of the person in Delhi with whom the accused had struck a deal.

The KIA police have registered a case and are further investigating.
