Karnataka State Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has volunteered to mediate and try to resolve the hijab- saffron shawl row if the state government agrees to convene a meeting of all those concerned.

He told News Trail that at present, the Karnataka High Court has begun hearing the writ petition filed by a few students seeking permission to wear the hijab.

If the gover nment feels there is a need to resolve the imbroglio through a dialogue, he would volunteer to mediate between the two sides.

The chairman said he has been a senior member of the Upper House and wanted to help the government to establish peace in society. No one must try to brainwash school kids by filling their minds with thoughts of caste or religion.

The state government has made the uniform dress code mandatory for school kids but not for college students. This row has impacted the image of Karnataka at the national and international arena.

The need of the hour is to establish peace and tranquility in society instead of making allegations against each other. “Given a chance, I am ready to use my experience to resolve the matter”, he added.
