No cancelling: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek says his company will not be “silencing” Rogan

In April 2021, in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ro g an made a statement on his spotify podcast about young people not needing the vaccine. He said “If you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me, should I get vaccinated? I’ll go, no.” In response to the said comment, the White House chief medical advisor Anthony Fauci, accused him of making misleading comments regarding the Covid19 vaccines.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, and others, removed their music from Spotify in protest of what they say is Covid-19 misinformation on the podcast and a montage video of Rogan using the N-word resurfaced online this past week.
In response to the Covid- 19 misinformation controversy, Rogan backed down on his comments calling himself a “moron” and “not a respected source of information”. He then apologised for the racial slurs he used saying the clips were “taken out of context.” “It’s not my word to use. I am well aware of that now, but for years I used it in that manner,” he said during the six-minute video on his Instagram account . Spotify CEO Daniel Ek released a statement saying that the company will not be “silencing” Rogan. Ek also announced Spotify will commit $100 million toward development of content from marginalised groups.

If they can cancel Joe they can cancel anyone. Time to stand up people. Funky @Benaskren
If you feel Joe Rogan owes an apology you should also accept it. As a recovering addict, I have done and said things that I’m not proud of, but if we are not given a chance to make amends, nobody would ever recover. — Terrance McKinney @ twrecks155
I’ll do ya one better @ Shanemgillis. If they cancel @joerogan every comic Rogan has ever helped should pull their podcast off Spotify. I’m down. @ BrendanSchaub
This Joe Rogan situation is fascinating to me. It all bothers me. You can defend his use of the n-word all you want but there is absolutely no reasonable defense for that disgusting Planet of the Apes bit. None. Go ahead. Explain why that’s okay. I’m right here. Waiting. @ AndreasHale
People like #JoeRogan are a small part of a huge problem. The real bogeymen are misinformation & disinformation - amplifi ed beyond belief by social media & eagerly, even gleefully, embraced by millions of people disinclined to seek out reliable sources of information. Douglas Herbert @ dougf24
#JoeRogan compared being in an area with a lot of black people with the movie #PlanetOfTheApes that won’t leave my head.. how can that be acceptable in any way @Spotify MAX @ThisIsMax
