After Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai distributed title deeds to the beneficiaries under one lakh multi-storey housing scheme for the poor, Housing Minister V Somanna directed the authorities to issue a work order and complete the project before March.

During a recent progress review meeting at Hesaraghatta, Somanna said, “The Chief Minister would personally verify the quality of the construction in March,” he said. MLA from Yelahanka constituency S.R. Vishwanath was also present during the site visit.

Somanna also said that earlier money could not be transferred to all the beneficiaries of the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme (RGHS) due to technical issues, but now they have been resolved. “We have sanctioned four lakh houses in rural areas and one lakh in urban areas. The central government has assured to sanction 18 lakh houses for the state in coming days,” he said.

The scheme seeks to fulfill the dreams of domestic workers, milk delivery persons, newspaper delivery boys, auto drivers, barbers and vegetable vendors, to have a roof of their own. Constructed in ground+3 and stilt+14 formats, a 1 BHK house will cost Rs 10.6 lakh and 2 BHK Rs 15.6 lakh. The beneficiaries will have to pay the cost of the house, excluding the subsidy provided by the government, in easy EMIs.
