For mer CM and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Ku m a r a sw a m y said the address by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to the joint session of the state Legislature revolved only around the Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing a news conference here on Monday, he said the address lacked details of the vision the incumbent government had for the next one year. It was disappointing and boring and did not mention anything about programmes for the coming months. With this, the government has informed citizens not to expect too much from the state budget 2022-23 to be presented by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai next month.
Kumaraswamy also said he would be raising certain key-issues during his speech on the governor’s address including the corruption during the Congress government’s tenure from 2013 to 2018 when Siddaramaiah was Chief Minister. The Congress leader’s claim that his government was the ‘most clean’ government would be exposed shortly. “Siddaramaiah talks of corruption in the incumbent BJP government. But people of Karnataka must also know what happened in the Congress government between 2013 and 2018”.
The JD(S) leader slammed the Congress party for its dual stand on the sharing of Mahadayi River water. Leaders while in Goa say that not a drop of water would be shared with Karnataka and make contradictory statements while in Karnataka. The election manifesto released by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had clearly stated that Goa would not share water with Karnataka. KPCC Working President Satish Jarkiholi said that Congress would take out a padayatra demanding that the state government should implement the Mahadayi drinking water project. The Congress leaders of Karnataka must take a clear stance on this vexed issue, he added.
The former CM felt some people were trying to gain political mileage by inciting communal feelings in children with the uniform dress code controversy. “I appeal to all organisations behind the hijab-saffron shawl row not to spoil peace and tranquillity as Karnataka is a peaceful state. I advise parents to keep their wards away from a few organisations which are trying to take advantage of the situation. The issue would not have dragged on so long had the government put a stop to it in Udupi in December last year”, he added.
