In a bizarre incident, two Kar nataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus conductors were issued notices for letting passengers carry luggage such as a jackfruit and a gas stove.
On Wednesday, Raghu, attached to KSRTC Hassan unit was one of conductors who were issued notice by the checking squad.
It was revealed that a differently-abled senior person, carrying a jackfruit, boarded the bus near Arsikere. Raghu has issued a ticket to him after collecting the specified amount from him. However after a few stops, a ticket checking officer boarded the bus. He took notice of the jackfruit, and asked Raghu why he did not collect the fare for the fruit.
As per the KSRTC guidelines, a passenger is allowed to carry luggage (all inclusive) free of cost to an extent of 30 kgs in case of adults and 15 kgs in case of chargeable child.
Raghu was surprised when the ticket checker handed him a notice accusing him of dereliction of duty. In another incident in Raichur, another conductor was slapped with a notice for not issuing a luggage ticket for the passenger carrying a gas stove with him.
Anand, joint secretary of Transport Workers Association, said that it was common for the villagers to transport such things by government buses.
“Charging a fare for such things may seem funny, but at the sametime it is wrong,”Anand said. “It is really unfortunate that such bad apples are defaming the state transport corporation. I request the government to take stringent action against the ticket checkers,” he added.
