A 28-year-old employee of MTR Distribution Agency was waylaid and robbed of cash by two scooterborne miscreants. The victim was drinking water at a bakery, when the accused allegedly came from behind, attacked him and escaped with his bag that contained cash. The robbers then targeted his colleague who was sitting in the agency’s vehicle nearby.
Passers-by who witnessed the mugging did not come to the aid of the victims even though they cried for help, according to police. Based on CCTV footage, the police arrested the two robbers, one of whom is a “habitual offender”.
The police have identified the victim as T Satish, 28, a native of Gowribidanur taluk in Chikkaballapura district. The incident occurred between 2.40 and 2.50 pm on February 7 on the KannurBallari Main Road.
Satish and Pradeep, the driver of the luggage vehicle, stopped by at the bakery for refreshments after collecting money from shops they had made deliveries to.
“The victims work for Bhagirathi Enterprises in Maruthinagar. They were returning to their office and stopped en route. The accused, who came on a Scooty, threatened Satish with a knife and pulled the bag with the cash.
“When the victim held on to it tightly, they struck him in the head with the knife. The victim got badly hurt and dropped the bag on the road,” an investigating officer said.
“When Pradeep tried to catch the robbers, the miscreants pushed him and made good their escape,” he added.
Satish rushed to a nearby hospital and obtained treatment.
The accused escaped with Rs 40,000. Following a complaint, Bagalur police scoured video footage in the area and zeroed in on the two accused.
The police identified them as Syed Imran, 28, and Afsar Baih, 19. They subsequently recovered Rs 2,500 and the two-wheeler used in the robbery.
Of the two, Imran has cases filed against him in Sampigehalli, KG Halli, Yelahanka and Soladevanahally police limits.
Further investigation is underway.
