Karnataka walked away with 3 points in their Ranji Trophy opener against Railways at the Guru Nanak College Ground in Chennai. The match ended in a draw giving Karnataka the edge based on the first-innings lead.
Chasing 279 with 41 overs left in the day, Railways had a big task before them, who ended up scoring 69/4 in 33 overs. In a highly unlikely situation, Karnataka looked like they were on the verge of a miracle win when Railways were reduced to 26/3 in 15 overs.
Losing their 1st innings centurion Arindam Gosh for a duck was a big blow for them along with Mrunal Devdhar and Shivam Chaudhary. Mohammed Saif 27* (59b, 4×4) and Vivek Singh 18 (82b, 4×2) added 40 runs in 17.1 overs batting out time and making sure the match is not slipping out of their hands.
Brief scores: Karnataka: 481 & 223 for 9 in 63.2 overs (Mayank Agarwal 56, R Samarth 83, K V Siddharth 39, Amit Mishra 4 for 58, Karn Sharma 3 for 47) drew Railways 426 in 128.3 overs (Arindam Ghosh 105, Mohammad Saif 84) and 69 for 4 in 33 overs (Mohammad Saif 27 not out, V Vyshak 2 for 16)
