Former Bahrain cop held for vehicle theft

Byatarayanapura police have arrested a former Bahrain policeman for vehicle theft and recovered a SUV and two scooters. The accused has been identifi ed as Nazeer Ahmed Imran, 61, a resident of BTM Layout.

After resigning from Bahrain police force, he had returned to Kerala and was doing some business. His son is said to be employed in an IT fi rm in the city, but Imran’s grouse was that despite earning a handsome salary, his son had not bought him a car or a twowheeler. A frustrated Imran then started stealing vehicles for his personal use.

“His modus operandi was to steal vehicles parked either in front of automobile showrooms or service centres, by posing as a customer. He had stolen a SUV that was parked in front of a showroom on Mysuru Road on January 2.

Later he had stolen a two-wheeler also from a showroom,” said a police offi cer. He was previously arrested on the same charges, but after coming out of prison, he resumed his criminal activities. “He ran out of luck when he used his mobile phone Bluetooth in the stolen SUV.

Since the car’s system was linked to the owner’s mobile phone, the whereabouts of the vehicle became known,” the offi cer added. There are around 10 vehicle theft cases registered against him at various police stations in the city
